Media In – Abu Dhabi 23 May 2018 / WAM /
The total market value of the UAE capital markets reached AED 850 billion at the end of trading today representing 56.6% of the UAE GDP in 2017.
An analysis of the market value of stocks listed on the UAE stock market shows that the level reached by the end of the second third of May is the highest in more than 15 years.
The rise in the market value was supported by several factors including the improvement in the prices of companies traded on the market during the recent period, in addition to listing new companies or increase the capital of listed companies.
Financial experts expect to increase the pace of improving the market value of shares of companies traded during the coming period in light of the continued rise in prices, especially the shares of leading companies listed in the banking and real estate sectors.
According to official figures issued by the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), the market value of financial markets reached AED 745 billion at the end of 2015, while the value during the year 2016 reached 813 billion dirhams.
Banking, finance, real estate and communications sectors account for 85% of the total market capitalization of listed companies in both markets by the end of 2017.
The Banking & Finance sector was the top loser in terms of market capitalization with AED 460 billion at the end of trading today accounting for 50% of the total market value of listed equities in December.
Telecommunications sector ranked second in terms of market value, which amounted to about 170 billion dirham and 20% of the total market value, while the real estate sector came third with about 15% of the total market value
