The Ministry of Economy organized an event at the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi under the theme: “We seek gold: intellectual property and sports” on the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day, which falls on April 26 each year.
The event comes in line with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) this year’s celebrations to support efforts to raise awareness of the role played by intellectual property rights in sports.
The event witnessed the participation of Ministry staff, school students, recreational, educational and sports activities at the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, which is a unique example of the investment of intellectual property rights in the sport world.
The event focused on consolidating the concept of intellectual property among different sectors of society in a distinctive celebration, as well as its role in promoting and developing the sport industry around the world.
Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy for Economic Affairs said that the protection of intellectual property rights plays a pivotal role in promoting innovation, developing creativity and supporting the development process.

He pointed out that the selection of the World Organization for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights for Sport as the address of its annual celebration this year comes at a time when there is a growing need to raise awareness among the societies of the importance of the role played by intellectual property rights systems in supporting the development process in various fields and activities.
