The Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority (ESMA) has considered the “specifications” of bilateral cooperation opportunities with the United States in the fields of oil and gas sector, construction and rationalization of energy consumption by starting to harmonize the UAE and US specifications in these sectors in order to enhance cooperation between the two countries. .
Abdullah Al Meini, Director General of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA), received a delegation of 19 officials from the United States of America, headed by the US National Standards Institute and officials representing governmental and international institutions in the field of standardization and specifications in the oil and gas, construction, Future duo between the parties.
The two sides discussed the harmonization of UAE and US specifications as part of a plan to sign memorandums of understanding under which the exchange of information, knowledge, expertise and technical capacity building of the standards and standardization will be carried out at the time the trade exchange between the UAE and the United States reached 25 billion dollars, according to the Ministry of Economy.
The United States is the third largest trading partner in the UAE, with total non-oil trade reaching about US $ 31 billion. US investments in the UAE reached US $ 5.2 billion two years ago.
He said that bilateral meetings would contribute to the development of technical services in the economic and trade sectors and facilitate the smooth flow of goods and goods between the two countries, as well as consultations on the possibility of facilitating trade exchange through attention to the field of specifications and standards in a way that enhances the quality of goods and products.
The harmonization of requirements and specifications between the two sides to facilitate the mutual recognition of the systems and certificates issued by the two countries was one of the most important points of consultation and the related development of technical cooperation mechanisms in the fields of quality and conformity assessment programs and standards.
US investments in the UAE are concentrated in the ICT, financial services, insurance, real estate, manufacturing, mining, healthcare, transport, warehousing and wholesale and retail sectors.
The UAE invests in the United States in the sectors of technology industries, cars, aluminum, food, economic zones, financial and banking services, shipbuilding, oil and gas sector, management and operation of sea ports, tourism, wholesale and retail trade, electronic commerce and information technology.
HE Al Meini affirmed that ESMA continues its efforts to develop the UAE’s legislative capacity and competence in a manner that contributes to improving the quality of life in the country and promotes the concepts of innovation and excellence as well as developing mechanisms to facilitate the flow of import and export movement in a way that supports the movement of goods and food commodities, Consumer and merchant rights.
The delegation included officials from the US Department of Commerce, the Embassy, ​​the US Consulate in the UAE, the International Trade Administration, the American Petroleum Institute, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the International Council for Coding, the National Association of Electrical Equipment Manufacturers, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials and a number of private sector officials.
