Jordan ranks fourth in the Corruption Perceptions Index for 2018

Rachid Transparency and Integrity, the national branch of international transparency in Jordan, announced that Jordan ranked fourth in the Arab World in the results of the Corruption Perception Index for 2018.
Jordan scored 49 out of 100 on the index for 2018, one more than 2017. This slight increase is due to the criteria listed under the World Economic Forum questionnaire and the World Competitiveness Yearbook questionnaire, which is to generate revenue from the automation of some government procedures such as issuing licenses And e-payment, as well as improved control of bribes and bids. The index is an annual assessment based on a number of data sources that measures the perceptions of corruption in the public sector of 180 countries and is considered extremely important internationally. The assessment of Jordan is based on eight sources, which in turn measure bribery, transfer of public funds, exploitation of the public office for personal gains, patronage and moderation, the rule of law, the government’s ability to implement integrity, and the prosecution of corrupt people. Interests, access to information and good governance.
Based on the findings of the Corruption Perceptions Index, the organization recommended the need to ensure the financial and administrative independence of the supervisory and supervisory bodies, the media, the Audit Bureau, the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission and law enforcement agencies and to harmonize all legislation in line with the United Nations Convention against Corruption. It also recommended reviewing legislation to ensure that there is no restriction on the freedom of expression and the right to information, the prosecution of all corrupt and ensuring fair trial, and dissemination of data on final accounts, especially with regard to security, defense and the budget of the provincial councils to consolidate decentralization and dissemination of the information contained in the declarations of financial disclosure electronically , Revising legislation on utilitarian property, tightening penalties for not disclosing legally required information, and applying and regularly updating the “Open Data” initiative.
