Etihad Airways celebrates 15 years of service to India

Etihad Airways is celebrating 15 years of flying to India, its largest and busiest market.
Etihad Airways launched daily flights to Mumbai, India’s first destination in the first 12 months of operations, in September 2004. Three months later, Etihad launched its services to New Delhi.
Etihad Airways operates 159 flights a week between Abu Dhabi and 10 major Indian destinations, including Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai and Tiruvananthapuram. Since the launch of its services to the Indian subcontinent, Etihad Airways has carried more than 16.5 million passengers.
Etihad Group Chief Executive Officer said that India and the UAE enjoy strong ties at all levels, with Etihad playing a key role as a link between the two countries and beyond.
“Etihad serves destinations in India that surpass any other country on its global network and connects India with the world through its Abu Dhabi hub.
Etihad Airways has created jobs for more than 4,800 Indian nationals. The group has contributed significantly to boosting the economy of the two countries and last year spent $ 151 million through its cooperation with 480 companies in India.
In terms of passengers, Etihad Airways has demonstrated its commitment to India by increasing the number of flights and upgrading its aircraft, including the latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which serves Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad destinations.
India is the most important strategic source for the market for Etihad Cargo.In addition to the cargo capacity offered by the airline on its 159 weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and India, it also offers dedicated cargo flights from Abu Dhabi to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. Over the past decade, Etihad has transported more than 560,000 tonnes of freight to and from India, ranging from general shipping to India’s major exports such as clothing, perishable products, medicines and electronics.
The consortium continues to support India through a range of corporate social responsibility initiatives, including a global education project to provide or raise funds for new educational facilities and educational materials. The company also conducts skills development and support workshops for Indian women and provides essential humanitarian assistance to those affected Natural.
