The United States welcomes Poland’s decision to choose Westinghouse as a technical partner to build nuclear reactors

Today, Wednesday, the US State Department welcomed the decision of the Polish government to choose the US company Westinghouse as its technical partner to build three nuclear reactors.

“This agreement will ensure a decades-old strategic energy partnership between the United States and Poland and is a watershed moment in strengthening European energy security,” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement, according to the State Department’s official website.

Blinken stressed the United States’ commitment to working with Poland to facilitate the production of safe nuclear energy, pointing out that this enhances security and economic relations between the two countries.

He thanked his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau for his close cooperation as the US and Polish governments developed joint financing solutions and innovative technical solutions to meet Polish clean energy needs and ensure the financial viability of the project.

“As NATO allies, the United States and Poland are already cooperating closely on a range of security and defense issues,” the US Secretary of State noted, expressing his country’s pride in expanding the partnership in the field of energy security through this new project.

The minister added that this project is also a major step forward in our global fight against climate change, as when the reactors are operating at full capacity, it is expected to generate 26 million tons per year of avoided carbon dioxide emissions and prove that we can enhance our energy security and climate ambition in one time.
