The United States has announced new export controls aimed at restricting China’s ability to purchase and manufacture semiconductors, heightening tensions between the two countries.
“These measures will limit the ability of the People’s Republic of China to procure and manufacture some advanced chips used in military applications,” the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) said.
“Our actions will protect the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States, while sending a clear message that American technology leadership is a matter of values as well as innovation,” Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Exports Thea Roseman Kindler said in a statement.
