The 8th Saudi Smart Grid Conference 2018 was launched under the umbrella of the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Jeddah, in the presence of a number of specialists in the electricity industry.
Dr. Nayef Al-Abadi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources for Electricity Affairs, said that the close coordination with the concerned parties in the sector has been dealt with and the modernization of the electricity system in line with the requirements of the next stage. The electricity sector strategy to match the national transformation program, the vision of the Kingdom of 2030, the optimal energy mix, and the orientation towards smart networks and their applications by replacing all mechanical meters with intelligent electronic ones, Zawmh according to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Renewable Energy Program in the Kingdom, including the exploitation of renewable energy sources, localization and related services industries.
He noted in this regard the announcement of the Office of Renewable Energy Projects Development last February, the first solar project in the city of Skaka, which was awarded to Aqua Power, to produce “300” megawatts, while the launch of the second project, Al-Jouf, to produce 400 MW of wind power, which will be announced soon. These projects are the first of its kind in the Kingdom in terms of capacity.
