The Arab League launched the first Arab Digital Economy Conference in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said in a speech that the Arab countries are working to enhance inter-Arab cooperation in all fields, the most important of which is economic and the beginning of the idea of joint Arab vision for the digital economy as an additional means to promote growth and social stability.
Aboul Gheit thanked the UAE leadership and government for their support of the initiative to promote the common digital economy. He also expressed his special appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for his patronage of the conference.
He said that choosing the theme of “The Arab Digital Economy” to be the central issue of the conference reflects honestly the magnitude of the challenges faced by the Arab region in light of the pivotal role of modern technology in the development of societies and economies in general.
He added that the League of Arab States always seeks to keep abreast of current developments around it in all fields and sectors and adopt best practices to activate and enhance the performance of the joint Arab action system. He pointed out that there is a development in some Arab countries that the Arab countries, including the UAE, Is the most advanced among the countries in the world in terms of the use of the Internet in light of the doubled rate of data flow across the border that links the Arab region with the rest of the world over the past decade more than 150 times in this area has achieved several Arab countries a quantum leap in the digital consumption in terms of art Sector rely on smart phones and use of the means of social communication rates.
The Conference started its morning session with the speech of Dr. Ali Al-Khouri, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity and Chairman of the Arab Union for Digital Economy and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, in which he stressed the importance of the conference in highlighting the angle through which countries should reconsider their dealings with the new frameworks of global economies to develop Systems and mechanisms of action as traditional methods and tools for development no longer and will not lead to the achievement of sustainable economies at the same level and speed required.
