British report: Sustainability in Dubai is a realistic approach

The British company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for professional services stated that Dubai has come a long way on the path of transformation towards sustainable cities. The company described Dubai as a self-reliant city, as it began some time ago to take serious initiatives in terms of transforming into a sustainable city that adopts the sustainability approach in an actual, tangible manner on the ground in all aspects of life.

PwC published a report entitled “Building Sustainable Cities: How Infrastructure Can Deal with Energy Challenges and Shocks”, in which it reviewed the most prominent experiences of sustainable cities, with a special focus on the energy-related aspects of these experiences.

The report singled out a special space for Dubai as a success story in adopting the initiatives it described as green initiatives, that is, which aim to promote the spread and popularity of renewable energy sources among the population and reduce their dependence on fossil energy, in order to achieve the ultimate goal, which is to reach the model of a sustainable city.

The report stated that one of the most prominent green initiatives adopted by Dubai is the “Green Charger for Electric Vehicles” initiative, which was adopted by the emirate represented by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in 2015, in implementation of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and President The Council of Ministers and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world, and to promote green mobility.

The report added that the initiative has achieved success, as evidenced by the increase in the number of electric vehicles registered in Dubai from only 71 vehicles on December 31, 2017, to 5,107 vehicles on December 31, 2022. Moreover, the number of electric vehicle charging stations has increased in Dubai. To 325 stations that provided owners of electric vehicles with a total charge estimated at 8,800 megawatt-hours, and enabled them to drive their environmentally friendly vehicles for a total distance of about 58 million kilometers.
