Dubai Police: 576 families who helped save their children from drug abuse received treatment and avoided falling under the law

Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, confirmed that the General Department for Drug Control has devised new mechanisms and methods to overthrow drug dealers, and deal with them professionally and efficiently, in cooperation with the competent authorities, to protect society from the scourge of drugs and limit its spread, especially as drug gangs are trying Always inventing new ways to evade the grip of justice.

The statistics of the “Hemaya International Center” in the administration revealed that 576 families responded during the past five years, and reported on their children who abused, which contributed to their receiving treatment and avoiding them falling under the law, according to Article 89, which states that “a criminal case shall not be instituted against substance abusers.” Narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances, if the abuser, on his own, or his wife or one of his relatives, up to the second degree, or whoever is in charge of his upbringing, comes to the unit, the Public Prosecution or the police before his arrest, or before the issuance of an arrest warrant, requesting that he be admitted to the unit for treatment. He is deposited with her until she decides to take him out.”

This came during Lieutenant General Al-Marri’s briefing on the department’s achievements within the annual inspection program for public administrations and police stations that took place at the Canadian University in Dubai, in the presence of Major General Khalil Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, and Brigadier General Eid Muhammad Thani Hareb, Director of the Department. The General Directorate for Drug Control, Brigadier General Dr. Saleh Al-Hamrani, Deputy Director of the General Department for Excellence and Leadership, Brigadier General Khalid Saeed Suleiman, Deputy Director of the Organizational Office for Leadership, Brigadier General Khalid bin Moeza, Deputy Director of the General Administration for Drug Control, and a number of officers.

Al-Marri was briefed on the department’s statistics related to the number of cases, persons, and quantities seized in the emirate during the past year, as it contributed to seizing 6 tons and 634 kilograms of drugs and narcotic pills.

The statistics showed that the administration contributed to the arrest of 46% of the suspects involved in narcotics and psychotropic substances cases in the country, and 47.2% of the quantities of drugs seized in the country.

The administration was able to pass 89 important information to 27 countries in cooperation with liaison officers, which contributed to the arrest of 36 international suspects, with a total of 4 tons and 463 kilograms of drugs. While the administration was able to block and close 340 accounts on communication applications and websites that promote drugs, which led to the arrest of 91 suspects.

Al-Marri was briefed on the results of the awareness programs in the “Hemaya Center”, which benefited 11 million 781 thousand and 38 people of 50 nationalities.
