New regulations for importing livestock in Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of Saudi Arabia started on 1/1/2019 with the application of new regulations for the importation of live livestock in accordance with the Council of Ministers’ Decision No. 66 to stop the cultivation of green fodder and its executive regulations to preserve natural resources and provide the local market needs of red meat. The Ministry has set three main controls that will contribute to the sustainability of the environment and achieve food security, pointing out that these controls are to adhere to the standard weights of livestock, which ensure that the consumption of quantities of feed after entering the Queen, starting from the date of stopping the cultivation of fodder determined by the Council of Ministers, If imported livestock are less than the standard weights, the livestock importer undertakes to import sufficient quantities of feed sufficient to reach the standard weight according to the requirements of the ministry, explaining that the ministry will periodically review and evaluate the weights determined, and adjust them as needed.
