The Ministry of Economy organizes a visit to the Republic of Ethiopia by an official and commercial delegation headed by His Excellency Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary for Foreign Trade Affairs, with the participation of more than 75 officials, businessmen and representatives of the private sector in the country. The Ethiopian-Ethiopian Business Forum and the inauguration of the State Pavilion at the Ethiopia International Trade Fair (EITE 2019), which will take place in Addis Ababa from 21 to 23 March 2019.
Abdullah Al Saleh said in a comment on the importance of the visit, which aims at developing economic, trade and investment cooperation frameworks between the two countries and comes within the framework of the efforts of the Ministry of Economy, in cooperation with its partners from federal and local government agencies and the private sector in the UAE. He said that Ethiopia’s International Trade Fair represents a regional platform to promote UAE non-oil exports in new commercial markets and explore new opportunities for trade and investment with Ethiopia, which is an important gateway to many markets in the east. Africa.
He added that the bilateral and economic relations between the UAE and the Republic of Ethiopia are strong and solid and have witnessed growing growth over the past years, stressing that the UAE government attaches great importance to strengthening trade and investment ties with Ethiopia in various fields of common interest, The Ethiopian market has diversified resources and promising opportunities in many sectors, notably agriculture, food processing, transportation, infrastructure, civil aviation and tourism.
Al Saleh explained that the UAE delegation will work through the official meetings and the UAE-Ethiopian Business Forum to open new channels for the private sector in the country to cooperate with the Ethiopian side and explore fruitful opportunities in various sectors of the Ethiopian economy. In the country and highlighted the facilities provided to employers, as well as to inform the Ethiopian side on the most promising sectors and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries during the next phase.
Ethiopia is a central country in the East Africa region with a population of 103 million. In 2016, it achieved a total domestic product of US $ 72.4 billion at current prices, a growth of 7% over the previous year.
Trade between the UAE and Ethiopia reached AED 2.3 billion (USD 618 million) in 2017. Trade between the two countries is expected to grow significantly by the end of this year, Cooperation during the last phase.
For his part, Mohammed Nasser Hamdan Al Zaabi, Director of Commerce Promotion Department at the Ministry of Economy, said during a preparatory meeting held in Dubai with the delegation members that the ministry has made all necessary preparations to organize the visit activities successfully. During the meeting, the topics of cooperation and partnership channels that will be discussed with the Ethiopian side will be determined, and the agenda of the visit and all the coordination and logistical aspects of the delegation of the State will be agreed upon.
