US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Tuesday that the United States is expediting the shipment of advanced “NASAMS” air defense missile systems to Ukraine, after it was subjected to a barrage of devastating missile attacks from Russia.
US President Joe Biden pledged to his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, in a call on Monday, to support his country’s air defenses after Kyiv was attacked.
The United States has agreed to send a total of eight NASAMS missile systems to Ukraine so far, two are expected to be delivered soon, and six over a longer time frame.
