General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, valued the joint international efforts between the Ministry of Interior represented by the Dubai Police General Command, the European Police Agency “Europol” and the countries of Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, France and the United States of America, which contributed to the success of the operation. “Desert Light”, which resulted in the overthrow of 49 wanted persons belonging to an international gang involved in the implementation of money laundering and drug smuggling crimes across international borders.
General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that Operation Desert Light comes within the framework of joint international cooperation efforts to contribute to combating money laundering and transnational drug trafficking, stressing the UAE’s keenness to develop deep relations with various police agencies worldwide. In order to confront organized crime everywhere, and to make the world a safe and secure place for all.
His Highness also stressed that the joint efforts in combating money laundering crimes also come within the framework of the country’s national strategy in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, praising the joint coordination between all strategic partners in the various global police agencies in combating this type of crime and fighting organized criminal gangs.
For his part, Lieutenant-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, confirmed that Operation Desert Light was an affirmation of the UAE’s efforts in combating money laundering crimes and fighting organized criminal gangs through continuous international coordination and cooperation in this field.
And he indicated that the joint efforts between the UAE represented by Dubai Police, the European Police Agency “Europol” and Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, France and the United States of America contributed to achieving this qualitative achievement, and the arrest of the gang members after the implementation of the precise security operation and in high coordination.
He explained that the joint efforts contributed to the dismantling of the deliberate gang network between 6 countries, and the seizure of large quantities of narcotic poisons in their possession, which they were transporting between Latin America and Europe, praising the strength of cooperation and coordination relations with police officers and Europol.
It is worth noting that the operation resulted in close coordination and continuous cooperation in overthrowing the largest criminal organization specialized in drug smuggling, as more than 30 tons of drugs and 49 suspects were seized, including 6 leaders who run networks and operations for drug smuggling and promotion in the continent of Europe.
The cooperation between Europol and the Ministry of Interior has taken an important step by signing a liaison officer agreement that allows the dispatch of Emirati law enforcement liaison officers to Europol headquarters in the Netherlands, where a liaison officer from the Ministry of Interior has already been sent to work alongside 250 liaison officers representing more than 50 countries. and a law enforcement organization.
