Egyptian-Russian cooperation in the field of energy

Cairo 11 January 23, 2024  SPA Today, via video conference technology, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, witnessed the start of concrete pouring at the base of the fourth electricity unit at the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. In his speech on this occasion, President Sisi praised the efforts made by the Egyptian and Russian sides to move forward towards implementing Egypt’s national project by establishing the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, noting that adding nuclear energy to the energy mix that Egypt relies on to produce electricity is of vital importance to meet its electrical energy needs. It also contributes to increasing reliance on new and renewable energy to achieve environmental sustainability and combat climate change. He pointed out that the crisis the world is witnessing in global energy supplies confirms the importance of reviving the Egyptian peaceful nuclear program for producing electrical energy, as it contributes to providing safe, cheap, long-term energy supplies, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and avoiding price fluctuations. For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in a similar speech that this project is considered one of the most important projects between the two countries, as its completion will contribute to developing the Egyptian economy, enhancing energy, developing modern industries, and providing job opportunities for specialists, explaining that the Dabaa nuclear station has no Emissions to the environment, unlike coal plants.
