The completion of the deep strategic tunnel for the drainage of the airport – Expo 2020 reached 2.5 billion dirhams and is scheduled for completion in September next year, one month before the start of the World Expo 2020.
His Excellency Engineer Dawood Al Hajri, Director General of the Municipality inspected the project, which is considered the latest development of the infrastructure in the Emirate and the best technology to make Dubai one of the most important investment destinations in the world.
Al-Hajri said that the work on the site 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will have a significant impact in the development of infrastructure to drain rainwater or groundwater for the area of ​​Al Maktoum City in general and the Expo project and the airport city in particular.
For his part, Eng. Fahad Al Awadi, Director of Drainage Projects Department, Dubai Municipality, said that the work stages witnessed the arrival of the giant tunneling machine successfully to the eighth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road, where it will be extracted, dismantled and reassembled to move from the seventh intersection to begin the final phase of tunneling payment until reaching the pumping station. The main land, which is located in the land reclaimed in the sea opposite the ports of Dubai World is expected to reach early next year.
Al-Awadhi pointed out that the 10.5 km project will serve an area of ​​490 kilometers including the Expo area, making it the largest in the Middle East and the Arab world. A parallel system and through three final stages will be used about 55 thousand concrete pieces in the tunnel weighing 2 tons each with the installation of huge metal rings numbering 4400 rings ensure the immunity and strength of the deep tunnel.
