Number of subscribers in UAE telecoms sector/Mobile phone increased to 23.19 million

The number of subscribers in the UAE telecoms sector / mobile phone, fixed telephone and Internet increased to 23.19 million subscribers in December 2018 compared to 23 million subscribers in November of the same year.
The latest statistics released by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) showed that the number of mobile telephone subscribers reached about 19.476 million last December and the penetration rate reached about 219 lines per 100 people.

The number of mobile subscriptions accounts for 84% of the total number of subscribers in all services provided by the sector. This service is the main source of revenues for operators, while the rest comes from data, internet, fixed line and other services.

The number of prepaid mobile subscribers reached 16.015 million at the end of December 2018.
In terms of postpaid mobile service, subscribers reached 3.460 million at the end of the same month.
At the level of Internet service, the total number of subscriptions was 1.379 million subscriptions at the end of last December. 99.9% of these subscriptions were registered for broadband Internet access.

On the fixed line, total subscriptions reached 2.335 million at the end of December last year.
In accordance with the standards approved by the TRA, the figures for mobile activity include only the actual subscriber subscriptions, namely, any subscriber who has made or received a voice or video call over the last 90 days or sent an SMS or MMS during that period. The Internet service is limited to the Internet subscription via the “real” phone which is a subscriber who has used his account to access the Internet in the last 90 days.
