MediaIn – Sharjah 18 February 2018 WAM

The number of passengers who used Sharjah International Airport during the last year 11.365 million passengers, an increase of 327 thousand passengers compared to 2016, especially in light of the use of smart gates, which contributed to the flow of traffic and ease congestion.

The Sharjah International Airport Authority said that in terms of regular and irregular flights, the airline recorded 75.96 thousand take-off and landing movements, including 6.61 thousand movements in December 2017, by attracting new airlines, expanding tankers operating at the airport and reaching new destinations.

The air cargo sector achieved good figures reaching more than 148.31 thousand tons. The volume of sea-air freight reached about 10.6 thousand tons, despite the regional and global challenges facing the sector. The airport benefited from its geographical location and proximity to many sea ports in the lifting Air traffic.

This came during a meeting of the Sharjah International Airport Authority, which was held recently at Al Noor Island in Sharjah to review the achievements and successes achieved during the last year in terms of aviation traffic, passenger numbers and shipping volumes, as well as future plans and programs to be implemented this year.
