Abu Dhabi offers 181 megawatts of electricity during Earth Hour

Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Power Corporation (ADEC), recorded a decline in electricity consumption in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by 181 MW during Earth Hour 2019.
Earth Hour is one of the initiatives aimed at raising the awareness of the society and its institutions by targeting different sectors to reduce energy consumption where lights and electrical devices are not necessary to preserve the environment and to promote rational consumption behaviors in order to build a more sustainable future.
Saeed Mohammed Al Suwaidi, General Manager of Abu Dhabi Distribution Company said that the company’s participation in Earth Hour comes within the framework of its keenness to preserve the environment and seek to establish superior standards in this field to raise awareness of different sectors of society and work to improve the efficiency of electricity consumption and natural resources. And encouraging various groups of society to contribute effectively to the rationalization of consumption.
Al Suwaidi added that the company has taken positive and serious steps to reduce consumption rates and stop waste of natural resources through its plan, which contributed to the provision of large quantities of electricity and reduce carbon emissions, which is one of the biggest challenges facing the world. In all projects implemented by them.
The company called on its employees and all segments of society to turn off the lights for one hour, in order to rationalize energy consumption and raise awareness of the community about the importance of protecting our natural resources and preserving the environment.
The company shut down its main building on March 30 for an hour, which started from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm, coinciding with the Earth Hour International event, the same time that all countries of the world celebrate this occasion.
Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, in cooperation with the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, organized a presentation on electricity and water conservation and the right ways to preserve this wealth for future generations in the Sahel field on Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The Earth Hour was launched in Sydney, Australia in 2007. The restaurants used candles to light and turn off lights in homes and landmark buildings, including the Opera House and Harbor Bridge. After the success of the campaign and the participation of 2.2 million Sydney residents, 400 cities joined Earth Hour in 2008.
