Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the consortium led by Aqua Power of Saudi Arabia and the Chinese government’s Silk Road Fund have announced the completion of the 950-megawatt phase-out of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar power plant, the world’s largest solar power plant at one location worldwide. Its production capacity will reach 5,000 megawatts by 2030 with investments of AED 50 billion.
The announcement was made at a press conference by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Mohamed Abunyan, Chairman of Aqua Power, in the presence of HE Tan Li, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Dubai, Erik Rufina, Commercial and Economic Advisor to the Spanish Embassy in the UAE and Paddy Badmanathan President and CEO of Aqua Power, Abdul Hamid Al Muhaidib, CEO of Noor Energy 1, Eng. Walid Salman, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, ​​and a number of officials from the UAE and the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia and the People’s Republic of China.
HE Al Tayer noted that this achievement supports the Authority’s efforts to increase the proportion of renewable and clean energy in Dubai and reinforces the UAE’s position as a leading global center for clean energy and green economy thanks to the vision of the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who is looking forward to the future and recognizes the importance of renewable energy in achieving balance between development and the environment.
