Dubai Customs: AED 39.9 billion Dubai trade in automotive spare parts during 2017

Dubai’s trade in car parts and accessories in 2017 was AED 39.9 billion, up 3 percent from AED 2016.38 billion, the Dubai Customs said today.
The total imports of tires, batteries and components of engines and systems to Dubai last year reached 22.35 billion while the value of exports and re-exports from the emirate amounted to 17 billion and 540 million dirhams.
The volume of trade in the automotive and after-sales service sector in Dubai has grown annually with a total of 2.25 million tons of tires, batteries, engine components and systems across the emirate in 2017, an increase of 8.4 percent compared to 2016.
Dubai Customs reported that Japan (5.63 billion dirhams), South Korea (3 billion dirhams), the United States (2.94 billion dirhams), Germany (2.69 billion dirhams) and China (2.39 billion dirhams) the cars.
The top five trade partners accounted for 69 percent of total UAE car imports in 2017. Japan was the best destination from which Dubai imported auto parts, accounting for 5.61 billion dirhams of market size and 25 percent of total imports. South Korea received exports of 2.94 Billion dirhams to Dubai (13 percent). The other five largest exporters to Dubai were the United States (2.37 billion dirhams), Germany (2.29 billion dirhams) and China (2.17 billion dirhams).
“The growth in this type of trade is due to the success of the emirate’s foreign trade,” said Ahmed Mahbub Musabah, Director of Dubai Customs. He stressed the Department’s keenness to support and sustain this growth following the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Dubai, which is keen to promote economic diversification.
