Dubai Economic Community “receives 14 thousand complaints to consumers during the first half of 2018

 The Department of Trade Control and Consumer Protection in the Department of Economic Development received 14,970 complaints to consumers in the first half of 2018 at a rate of 2495 complaints per month, an increase of 23% compared to the same period of 2017. These results underscore the effective role of the Dubai economy in protecting consumers’ rights and their ability to spread the culture of consumers in Dubai, as well as its efforts to enhance the emirate’s commercial status as a safe destination for residents and tourists. The share of complaints among the various sectors was 28.3%, followed by the electronics sector at 17.8%, followed by the automotive sector by 8.9%, textiles and inputs by 4%, followed by the furniture sector by 3.4%, clothing and accessories by 3.2% 2.8%, car repair workshops 1.6%, decoration and maintenance of buildings 0.9%, salons 0.6%, and the remaining 10.3% distributed to other sectors. Mohammed Ali Rashid Lootah, Executive Director, Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Department, Dubai Economic Development Department, said that Dubai’s economy seeks to promote consumer culture and facilitate the relationship between it and the merchant through an ideal business environment with a high culture of awareness and impartiality in the buying and selling procedures in the trade sector.
