Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced the loading and unloading of the first 10,500 tons of calcined coke from the United Arab Emirates to China on board. The Liho  leased from ADNOC Logistics and Services to be unloaded in the Chinese city of Yantai by the end of April 2019.
This first shipment of high value products represents ADNOC’s latest achievements in its efforts to reduce the production of high sulfur / waste oils, and aims to reduce the refining of these oils, which has become a priority for the company with the announcement of the IMO 2020 regulations for fuel Low-sulfur shipping aimed at reducing the concentration of sulfur in ship fuels from 3.5% to 0.5% as it seeks to reduce the environmental impacts of the global shipping fleet.
The IMO 2020 regulations are expected to have a significant impact on the global oil refining and transportation industry.
In September 2018, ADNOC launched the carbon black and anodized carbon monoxide unit at a cost of billions of dollars. This unit, which contributed to the production of the first shipment of calcined coke destined for China to ADNOC, achieves the maximum value of heavy sulfur and residues per barrel of oil to implement its refining and petrochemical strategy.
