The benchmark Nikkei average rose at the start of trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Thursday.
The Nikkei <.N225> was up 0.33 percent at 22,482.51. The broader TOPIX index <.TOPX> was up 0.24 percent at 1,777.22.
