The Director General of the former Al-Haramain Express train project Dr. Bassam Gulman announced that the financial costs of the railway project exceeded 60 billion riyals.
Gulman said that 138 bridges and 850 drainage lines have been implemented for rain and floods, in addition to more than 60 million cubic meters of drilling, 63 million cubic meters of rock and fill, and 35 electric trains were manufactured and supplied. Each train consists of two engines, thirteen trailers, Train 417 passengers.
He pointed out that the completion of the entire track along a 450 km track of a double rail linking Mecca to Madinah through Jeddah and Rabigh and noted that at the start of commercial operation full capacity of the project will be possible to run seven trains an hour between Mecca and Jeddah
