The UAE is the first country in the Middle East to introduce a product safety law on the market

 “The UAE has become the first country in the Gulf region and the Middle East to introduce a law on the safety of products traded in its markets to ensure the protection of the public health of consumers,” said Abdullah Al Meini, Director General of the Emirates Standards and Metrology Authority.
Last week, the Federal National Council (FNC) approved the federal draft law on market safety for the state to introduce a new phase in supporting quality of life.
Al-Mu’aini said that the draft law is a general umbrella for all legislations related to the circulation of products in the markets where it is concerned with protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the national economy and raising the indicators of the country’s competitive competitiveness.
He added that the draft law will be applied after the issuance of all products before entering the UAE markets and will require producers, manufacturers or suppliers to provide all documents and information related to their products which prove that these products are free of any risks or threats to public health and consumer safety. Or the environment for any risks or damages resulting from the circulation and use of its producer or goods.
He pointed out that the trader or the supplier is facing a deterrent punishment if he tries to violate the provisions stipulated in the draft law on the federal product safety as the provisions of the offenses punishable up to imprisonment and a fine of not less than 500 thousand dirhams and does not exceed three million dirhams or one of these penalties Any product that does not comply with the requirements of a safe product or continues to offer a product despite a decision to withdraw or retrieve it or to put a product that has been reserved until the completion of the procedures to ensure its safety.
