US stocks fall on trade worries

US stocks fell today as markets were hit by an escalation in the US-China trade row, and the Dow Jones index has erased gains since the start of the year to fall into a year-on-year decline.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 287.33 points, or 1.15 percent, at 24,700.14.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index shed 11.18 points, or 0.40 percent, to 2,762.57.
The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 21.44 points, or 0.28 percent, at 7,725.59.
