Abu Dhabi Economic Department organizes a seminar on empowering women in the industrial sector

Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED) organized a seminar entitled “Empowering Women in the Industrial Sector” ahead of the hosting of the 18th Conference of the Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) from 3-7 November.
HE Rashid Abdul Karim Al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Department, explained that the theme of the symposium comes within one of the main themes to be discussed by UNIDO during its work in Abu Dhabi.The Department of Industry Development Bureau of the Department was keen to highlight the main themes to be discussed by UNIDO agenda, the most important of which is the empowerment of women in the industrial sector.
The Undersecretary explained that the strategy of the Industrial Development Bureau for the development of the industrial sector depends on enhancing the role of national cadres in driving the engines of industrial growth in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi through enhancing Emiratisation efforts in this vital and important sector.
He pointed out that Emirati women are able to prove their presence in various fields of work, where the industrial sector is one of the most valuable sectors that await more creativity, innovation and active participation of UAE nationals as it provides new jobs related to artificial intelligence and advanced technology.
The seminar included several presentations initiated by the Industrial Development Bureau with a presentation by Anoud Saleh Al Marzouqi, Head of the Environment, Health and Safety Systems Department, who pointed out that more than 40% of the employees of the Industrial Development Bureau are UAE nationals.
She explained that at the level of semi-government agencies, for example, the number of women occupying positions at Strata 58% of them 90% are citizens with 365 female national employees and 21 out of 34 team leaders are UAE nationals and females occupy 19% of the jobs in Emirates Global Aluminum At Emirates Steel, 2,200 employees are employed, with a total of approximately 500 UAE nationals, 70 of whom are female.

According to the Industrial Development Bureau, there are 114 industrial licenses owned by women in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi with a total investment value of 7.4 billion dirhams, of which 60 factories are producing 6 billion dirhams.
For her part, Asma Al Ameri from Abu Dhabi Ports, Khalifa Industrial City (Kizad) made a presentation during the symposium, pointing out that the female component of the UAE represents 64%, and stated that Khalifa Industrial City contributed about 3.6% to the non-oil GDP of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at the end of In 2018, Kizad is working to achieve 15% by 2030.

It is the first UAE industrial company to license its core industrial technologies internationally.
Emirates Global Aluminum contributes about US $ 5 billion to the country’s annual GDP, equivalent to 1.4%. The aluminum sector also provides 60,000 jobs in the country with 7,000 employees.
In the field of supporting the work of Emirati women in the field of heavy industries, Nouf explained that more than 19% of the total administrative and supervisory jobs in Emirates International Aluminum Company are occupied by nationals.

Al-Azazi, Founder and Executive Director of Sandstorm Automobile Factory, said that successful businesswomen in the UAE are now leading positions in the executive departments of factories, semi-government companies and private and medium-sized and large private sector companies.
