NASA is preparing to conduct the first space survey of water on Earth

Los Angeles on December 14th

An international mission led by the US Aeronautics and Space Administration “NASA” is preparing to launch a major scientific mission, the first of its kind, to conduct a comprehensive survey of the world’s oceans, lakes and rivers, by installing a radar satellite in space to monitor the topography of surface waters and oceans that cover 70% of the Earth’s surface.
The Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to launch on Thursday from the US Space Force base Vandenberg, about 170 kilometers northwest of Los Angeles, to carry the satellite into orbit.
The satellite, which was developed over nearly 20 years, uses technology that scientists say is capable of collecting measurements of the length and surface of oceans, lakes, water reserves and rivers in high-resolution detail covering 90 percent of the world.
The data, which will be collected by the Radar Survey of the Planet at least twice every 21 days, will advance understanding of ocean circulation patterns and underpin climate projections, help manage scarce fresh water supplies in drought-stricken regions, and explore how the oceans naturally absorb heat and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Which leads to moderate global temperatures and climate change.
