The UAE participates in the Belt and Road Initiative summit in Hong Kong, with a delegation headed by the Minister of Economy

An official Emirati investment delegation, headed by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, will participate in the eighth session of the “Belt and Road Initiative” summit, which will be held in Hong Kong tomorrow, within the framework of growing economic relations between the two sides and enhancing joint trade and investment cooperation at the levels of the government and private sectors. And building trade and development partnerships in the new economy, technology and entrepreneurship sectors that serve the competitiveness and sustainability of the economies of both sides.

The UAE delegation includes the participation of more than 40 people from government agencies and institutions and the private sector, including the registration authority at the Abu Dhabi Global Market, the Dubai South Logistics Zone, the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, the Dubai Future Foundation, Sharaf Group, Lulu International Group, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), and Mensa Investments. The Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, the Sharjah Foreign Direct Investment Office “Invest in Sharjah”, the Berkeley Middle East Group, and the “The Catalyst” accelerator, which specializes in accelerating the growth of emerging companies in the field of clean technology in the region.

Promising opportunities

Bin Touq will participate in a session within the sessions that will be held in the eighth session of the summit entitled “Unlocking Potential in the Middle East Region,” in the presence of a group of ministers and officials. The session will shed light on the promising investment and commercial opportunities in the UAE and the Middle East region and learn about the advantages and capabilities of the geographical location. For the UAE, especially as it is a global center for trade and investment and the mechanisms for countries in the region to benefit from the Belt and Road Initiative. Minister Bin Touq will participate in a number of other sessions and meetings of this summit, and will hold a number of bilateral meetings with a group of ministers, officials and major companies in Hong Kong, with the aim of continuing to develop economic and trade relations between the two sides to new levels of growth and prosperity and exploring more promising investment opportunities. He will meet with another group of ministers, officials and investors from some of the countries participating in the summit.

The visit also includes Bin Touq’s visit to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to learn about the technological technologies at the Robotics Institute and visit the headquarters of 4 companies, namely “Huawei”, “Pony.ai”, “Buruj” and Cyberport. The visit will also witness the review of a group of pioneering Emirati projects within the sessions that will be discussed at the summit, in addition to holding a group of meetings between investors and businessmen in the UAE and Hong Kong.

It is worth noting that the Belt and Road Initiative, which is supported by 152 countries and represents 75% of the world’s population and more than 50% of the global GDP, will celebrate its tenth anniversary this year 2023. Hong Kong is an active contributor to the Belt and Road Initiative as it represents a leading platform for international companies. To conduct business within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative to help achieve the goals of the initiative, to deepen cooperation between countries, and to support economic growth in many regions around the world, including the Middle East.
