UAE imports and exports of telecommunications services in 2018

The UAE’s imports and exports of telecommunications services amounted to AED 10 billion in 2018, a growth of 3.7% compared to AED 9.64 billion in 2017, a move that reflects the sector’s index on the rising trend, which strengthened its position internationally.
The country has risen from 61st to 5th place globally in the ICT Competitiveness Index in general, which measures the competitiveness in the price basket, internet sector, telephone sector and related laws in 2018, according to the indicators data published by the Global Knowledge Index report United Nations Development Program.
The monitoring of the trade movement of telecommunications services (imports and exports) at the quarterly level shows that the first quarter of last year was the fastest growing by 9.4% as the value of services rose to 2.429 billion dirhams, compared with 2.218 billion dirhams in the same quarter of 2017. In the third quarter, it grew by 7% from AED 2.418 billion to approximately AED 2.588 billion during the monitoring period.
During the second quarter of last year, the value of imports and exports of telecommunications services reached AED 2.587 billion, an increase of 1.6% compared to AED 2.547 billion in the same quarter of 2017. The value stood at AED 2.451 billion.
It is noteworthy that telecommunication services include the broadcasting or transmission of voice, image, data and other information by telephone, telex, telegrams, radio and television networks, wired and satellite, e-mail and fax. Movable.
Also included in this category are mobile telecommunication services, network maintenance services and network access services, including Internet connectivity services, excluding the installation of telephone network equipment.
