Dubai Economic Zone closes 4,879 accounts for selling counterfeit goods through media outlets

 The Department of Trade Control and Consumer Protection in the Department of Economic Development in Dubai closed 4879 accounts for the promotion and sale of counterfeit goods through social networking sites, which reached 33.5 million followers. These efforts are part of the Department’s efforts to protect trademark owners and filter e-commerce in Dubai from negative phenomena and thus maintain Dubai’s business status known for its sustainability and business competitiveness. Ibrahim Bahzad, Director of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at the Dubai Department of Economic and Social Development (DED), said that social media channels and other websites are among the most prominent methods used by some traders to escape the special procedures of the Dubai economy. Websites and digital channels will protect them from falling into the hands of the 24-hour IP protection team to control social networking sites. Behzad pointed out that the “E-Control” team works on monitoring the e-market and other social media channels as well as other websites that are engaged in the sale of products to maintain the commercial status of Dubai as an ideal environment for business and sustainability. He pointed out that the Electronic Intellectual Property Protection Division of EEI closed those websites that promote counterfeit goods in cooperation with a number of law firms and other trademark owners. He pointed out that if the Electronic Control Division becomes aware of the sites of “stores or warehouses” in which the activity takes place, The necessary procedures to control them, where at least 30 websites have been closed as well.
