As a result of the modernization of the supply chain from the farm to the market, the duration of domestic products from the farm to the market has decreased from 24 hours last season to 16 hours this season, maintaining the quality of the products to fresh to consumers and the quantity of agricultural products has tripled In the last two months compared to the same period last year. The products ranked in the first category increased to 78% of the total products supplied from Abu Dhabi farms, thanks to the efforts of the Center to develop the awareness of farmers and encourage them to apply the best Of agricultural practices that increase the quality and quantity of farm production.
Zafer Al Qasimi, Director of Operations and Trade at the Farmers Service Center, said that the supply chain starts from the receiving centers of the agricultural products that are located near the farms. There are 15 receiving centers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The farmers supply their products to them and then they are sorted by quality engineers. The center has three main centers for sorting, packaging and distribution in Baniyas, Al Ain and Zayed City in Al Dhafra area. It handles about 900 tons of fruit vegetables each week, while the operational capacity of each of these centers is about 1 160 to 200 tons of vegetables and fruits daily, with round-the-clock rotation. About 60 per cent of these products are supplied to major supermarkets and retailers such as Carrefour, Lulu, Spinneys and Choittram.
