11-02-2019 Media In / Islamabad
Finance Minister Asad Omar said that his country is likely to get a financial loan from the International Monetary Fund soon to avoid a balance of payments crisis and support the economy, in the light of the meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and International Monetary Fund President Christine Lagarde on the sidelines of the World Summit of Governments.
The finance minister told members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Peshawar in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunhwa that the talks had reduced the differences and an agreement with the IMF was imminent.
He noted that the differences are related to the pace and magnitude of structural reforms and the simplification of tax procedures to expand the tax network, strengthen foreign exchange reserves and narrow the current account deficit.
IMF President Christine Lagarde said the IMF was ready to support Pakistan by providing a financial aid package.
