The UAE is looking to enhance cooperation in export controls with partners from America, Europe and Britain

The UAE welcomed the joint visit by high-level officials from the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States on September 5, to discuss export controls and trade in potential dual-use products. The visit reinforces the constructive talks held in February 2023.

He met the visiting delegation, which included Eric Woodhouse, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Financial Threats and Sanctions in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs of the US State Department, David O’Sullivan, International Special Envoy for European Union Sanctions Implementation, and Kumar Iyer, Director General of Economics, Science and Technology at the British Foreign Office, With representatives of the Executive Office for Control and Non-Proliferation, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Economy, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the sessions, the UAE reviewed the country’s export control framework, and the two sides also discussed the sanctions regimes approved by all parties and future plans to enhance coordination in this regard.

Saeed Al-Hajri, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic and Commercial Affairs, said: “As one of the most important trade and investment centers in the world, the UAE welcomes the continuation of the constructive talks held in February to enhance partnership and coordination on export controls and sanctions regimes.” The visit is an opportunity to shed light on the export control framework, in addition to reviewing the clear and strict procedures in force in the country. The UAE enjoys a legal framework to control exports, and actively and continuously monitors the export of dual-use products. We also affirmed our commitment to continuing the dialogue with our international partners in this field.
