Egypt: A plan to drill 45 gas wells in the Mediterranean Sea and the Delta, with investments of $1.9 billion

Engineer Tarek El-Molla, Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, announced the implementation of a plan to drill 45 natural gas wells in the Mediterranean Sea and the Delta, with investments of about $1.9 billion, which included drilling 10 wells that were completed during the fiscal year ending 2022/2023, which resulted in a number of discoveries, the most important of which was the discovery Nargis in the Mediterranean, with reserves of about 2.5 trillion cubic feet of gas.

He said that the plan for drilling wells includes, during the fiscal years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025, drilling 35 new wells for natural gas, with investments of more than $1.5 billion, with the aim of increasing production rates and reserves.
The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources – during his meeting with Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Egyptian Prime Minister, reviewed today at the government headquarters in the new city of El Alamein –
Development and exploration activities for natural gas, pointing out that the results of the international bidding to search for natural gas in 12 land and sea areas in the Mediterranean and the Delta are being evaluated after it was closed at the end of last July.
The Egyptian minister also reviewed the executive position of the plans to develop the Zohr gas field, which included drilling and completing 20 wells, in addition to 5 additional wells starting in 2024, to support production rates from the field, which currently amount to about 2.2 billion cubic feet of gas per day, pointing to the measures implemented to support Efficient performance of the land station of the field, which is planned to be completed in the middle of next year.
